# Oxy® Proxy Extension for Chrome

[**Oxy**® **Proxy Extension**](https://oxylabs.io/products/chrome-proxy-extension) is a proxy management extension for Chrome. It's free and works with any proxy provider of your choice.

This quick guide shows how to integrate Oxylabs [**Datacenter Proxies**](https://oxylabs.io/products/datacenter-proxies).

### Setup

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
[**Download**](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/oxylabs-proxy-extension/infajoaodhhdogakhloedbppcbeajhoo) and click the extension icon to open the application.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the **+Add new proxy** button.

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2FbkOQueNFR677hcmlsPro%2Foxy-extension-2.png?alt=media&#x26;token=f92e1450-834c-4407-a6bb-4afa0da43a14" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
A new tab will open up where you can **set up your proxy profile**.

Fill in the details as follows:

<table data-header-hidden data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Name</strong></td><td><code>Project name</code></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Protocol</strong></td><td><code>HTTP</code> or <code>HTTPS</code></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Domain</strong></td><td><code>dc.oxylabs.io</code></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Port</strong></td><td><code>8000</code></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Username</strong></td><td><code>user-USERNAME</code></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Password</strong></td><td><code>PASSWORD</code></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="warning" %}
Make sure to add the `user-` part to your username.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Save changes**.

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2FthyBgXkWk9KrxFwAdWRM%2Foxy-extension-3.png?alt=media&#x26;token=ee0b09e8-d6dc-4479-b40b-0f98f63ad2de" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Open the extension as shown in the first step and click **Connect**.

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2FaYiWTSnYt8zuN6BJkcry%2Foxy-extension-4.png?alt=media&#x26;token=4d3d36f4-f4bd-4ce2-bc87-07148d7a01cb" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

That's it. You're now using proxies with automatically rotating IP addresses.

### Geo-location settings

To access proxy IPs from a specific country, append `country-` and the 2-letter country code to your username. For example, for US-based proxies, use: `user-USERNAME-country-US`. Check the [documentation](https://developers.oxylabs.io/proxies/datacenter-proxies/select-country) for all supported countries.

### Static sessions

You can also use the same proxy IP address for multiple requests. Port `8000` will always rotate proxy IPs, while connecting through port `8001` uses the IP assigned to this port. To switch IPs, change the port to `8002`, `8003`, etc. You can find the assigned port numbers in your [proxy list](https://dashboard.oxylabs.io/?route=/overview/datacenter-proxies/proxy-lists).

{% hint style="success" %}
For the **Pay-per-IP** subscription, the port is the sequential number assigned to an IP address from the given list. Thus, port `8001` uses the first IP address from your list.

For the **Pay-per-traffic** subscription, port `8001` picks a random IP address but stays consistent during a session. Here, you can use ports within the range of `8001` to `63000`.
{% endhint %}

Let's add a new static proxy that uses port `8001`:

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2FMEv54IkWIMZRqM4ioid1%2Foxy-extension-5.png?alt=media&#x26;token=f4bc691b-95f1-47fc-a29d-f52cb9677900" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After saving the changes, open the extension window and connect to the newly created proxy.

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2Fh9zW3YiCwT2Sm5kES30N%2Foxy-extension-6.png?alt=media&#x26;token=9ee57fb0-7557-4c77-8103-2a4b757f45fa" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Global bypass list

If you don't want to use proxies when accessing specific websites, you can add them to the bypass list. Open the extension, click **Manage proxies**, and then open the **Global Bypass List**.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://63892162-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzrXw45naRpCZ0Ku9AjY1%2Fuploads%2FcMaIWJaete3DEUfErIuw%2Foxy-extension-7.png?alt=media&#x26;token=21534bf2-b742-4232-859b-eaf4c335441f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For example, if you want to skip using proxies for `https://ip.oxylabs.io/`, you should enter the address like this: `https://ip.oxylabs.io` or `ip.oxylabs.io`. Once you visit this site, you should see your regular IP address instead of a proxy IP.

{% hint style="warning" %}
After saving the changes, disconnect and reconnect the proxy to enable the bypass list.
{% endhint %}

### Common errors

Use the troubleshooting steps outlined below to fix common extension errors when using Oxylabs or other providers' proxies.

<details>

<summary>Proxies not connecting</summary>

Try **disconnecting** and **re-connecting** your proxies in the extension. If the issue persists, move on to the next step below.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Incorrect proxy credentials</summary>

Verify the proxy **username** and **password** you've entered are correct and match the credentials assigned by your proxy provider.

For Oxylabs Datacenter Proxies, ensure you're using the **proxy user's** username and password you've created in the Oxylabs [dashboard](https://dashboard.oxylabs.io/). You can always edit these credentials in the dashboard by going to **My Products** → **Datacenter Proxies** → [**Users**](https://dashboard.oxylabs.io/?route=/overview/datacenter-proxies/users).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Invalid username without appending <code>user-</code></summary>

Oxylabs Datacenter Proxies **require you to append** the `user-` string to your proxy user's username. For example, if your username is `john_TFTdL`, then you must enter your username as `user-john_TFTdL`.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Invalid proxy domain or port</summary>

Make sure you're using a valid proxy domain and port number **as assigned by your proxy provider**.

A valid domain address for Oxylabs Datacenter Proxies is `dc.oxylabs.io` and port `8000`. See the [full list of valid ports](https://dashboard.oxylabs.io/?route=/overview/datacenter-proxies/proxy-lists) in the dashboard. You can check the [documentation of Datacenter Proxies](https://developers.oxylabs.io/proxies/datacenter-proxies) to learn more.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Proxy port out of range</summary>

Verify you've entered a **proxy port that isn't out of range**. For Oxylabs Datacenter Proxies, refer to this list of port ranges based on the subscription plan:

* **Free proxies:** from `8000` to `8005`.
* **Pay-per-IP:** depends on the number of IPs you've purchased. For instance, if you've acquired `50` IPs, the port range will be from `8000` to `8050`.
* **Pay-per-traffic:** from `8000` to `63000`.

Visit the dashboard to find your [proxy list with assigned port numbers](https://dashboard.oxylabs.io/?route=/overview/datacenter-proxies/proxy-lists).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Extension not working</summary>

If the extension is not working for some reason, try **uninstalling** and **re-installing** it through the [Chrome web store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/oxylabs-proxy-extension/infajoaodhhdogakhloedbppcbeajhoo) or browser settings.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Disable third-party VPN</summary>

Turn off a third-party Virtual Private Network (VPN) if you're using it. It may conflict with the Oxy® Proxy Extension.
